Mario Mariniello

About Mario Mariniello

I strive to capture intimacy and connection in crowded social contexts.

Born in Florence, Italy, in 1979. Alongside my career as a social scientist, economist and philosopher, I nurtured a passion for documentary photography from a young age. My father showed me how to hold a camera in my hands while blending into the surroundings; the Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, how to tell a visual story.

My work includes reportages on Iceland's natural energy, weightlifters in the Pacific, local communities in Florence's suburbs, circus training in the periphery of Ulaanbaatar, Akha tribes’ rituals in Northern Thailand, the old and next generation of Cubans, San Francisco train commuters, Roma’s traditional celebrations in France and sexual liberation festivals in Brussels.
